Our Purpose

Welcome to Settled Minds Psychology, a telehealth-based psychology practice focused on supporting expats facing the various struggles of living abroad.

At Settled Minds Psychology, we are committed to delivering compassionate, evidence-based psychological care tailored to individuals navigating life transitions; particularly, expats adjusting to life in Australia. Grounded in current research and clinical best practices, our approach integrates various evidence-based psychological modalities to support long-term wellbeing. We believe in creating a safe, inclusive space where each person feels understood, respected, and empowered to live with greater clarity and purpose.

We are grounded in our values of Freedom, Authenticity, Self-Awareness, Adventure, and Contribution.

Our Vision

Our Vision

Settled Minds Psychology was founded by Josey Clifton, a Registered Psychologist and UK expat passionate about helping others navigate the emotional terrain of living abroad.

"As a psychologist working in Australia for several years, I repeatedly heard stories from expats struggling with the realities of starting over in a new country. Having made the move from the UK to Australia in 2017, I understand the bittersweet duality of building a life in a new place while holding onto the one you left behind.

There’s the thrill of discovery and new connections, balanced by the quiet grief of missing loved ones. The sense of freedom, yet moments of loneliness. The excitement of growth, shadowed at times by the weight of guilt or the fear of not 'getting it right.'

Settled Minds Psychology is my response to that complexity. It's a space created for expats and individuals in transition to feel grounded, connected to their roots, and supported in building a meaningful life - no matter where their heart calls home."

Frequently Asked Questions

My standard fee is $180 per session. If you're eligible for a Medicare rebate, you may receive a partial reimbursement, which helps reduce your out-of-pocket cost (see below).

We understand that the cost of therapy can be a barrier for many people, which is why our fees are set below the recommended rate. While we are unable to offer bulk-billing, some clients are eligible for a Medicare rebate of $98.97 (2025 rates) with a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, meaning sessions will cost $81.03 out of pocket.

No referral is needed to start - you’re welcome to book an appointment with us anytime. However, if you’d like to access the Medicare Better Access Scheme and receive rebates, you’ll need a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP. This plan entitles you to up to 10 rebated sessions per calendar year. Once it’s in place, your GP can send the referral directly to us, or you can forward it when you book.

The number of sessions you need completely depends on your and your goals! Every person is different. Some people feel they need only a few sessions, whereas others prefer to keep therapy going long-term - you don't need to commit to a particular number of sessions. You're in the driver's seat, and we're here to support whatever pace feels right for you. This is something we're always happy to explore together.

Therapy is a personal experience, and finding the right fit is a huge part of navigating your journey as comfortably as possible. Many people try a few therapists before finding the right fit! If you feel that we aren't a match, we encourage you to share hesitations, ask questions, and we can help you explore other options or refer on. We’re here to support, not pressure.

Sessions typically run for 50 minutes, giving us enough time to explore what's present and work at a pace that feels supportive.

Your first session is a gentle starting point. We’ll take time to understand what brings you here, explore your goals, and create a safe space for you to share as much or as little as feels right. There’s no pressure - it’s about settling in and beginning the process together.
